SUMMARY:

Maternal and child health reflects the health conditions of the population and is targeted in several global health actions. The high complexity of care for this population generates high demand and, consequently, entails a significant burden for the health system. In order to help guide public policies, it is necessary to carry out a population health diagnosis and identify health determinants and aggravating factors in costs and demands. Thus, the objective of the study is to analyze perinatal and neonatal care and estimate the direct costs arising from the process of this care in Brazil between the years 2011 and 2021. For this purpose, two ecological studies will be carried out, one descriptive and the other analytical. Secondary data will be collected from the DATASUS hospital, outpatient and live birth systems. Data will be filtered for the perinatal and neonatal period in the years 2011 to 2021 throughout the Brazilian territory. The distribution of the characterization variables and care costs will be described in a space-time series and the inference of associations between the analyzed health variables will be made. It is expected to estimate the direct costs arising from the perinatal and neonatal care process in Brazil, from a perspective of the public health system between the years 2011 and 2021, in addition to describing the distribution of these costs and other variables of characterization in health of the maternal and child population between regions and states of Brazil and between the proposed years. In addition, it is expected to identify variables associated with higher costs.
