SUMMARY:

Objective: To describe and evaluate prenatal care and its direct costs in the Brazilian public health system from a public health system perspective in the period 2011 and 2021. Method: This is a descriptive and analytical ecological study of prenatal care, based on secondary data from the Information Systems of the Unified Health System (SINASC, SIA, SIH) available on the Datasus website (Department of Informatics of the Brazilian Unified Health System). With variables to be analyzed from the SINASC, SIA and SIH in relation to the race/color of the mother, maternal age group, adequacy to prenatal care, previous pregnancies, previous deliveries duration of pregnancy (in weeks), month of the first consultation, prenatal enrollment, treatment of Gestational Diabetes Mellitus, treatment of clinical complications in pregnancy, treatment of edema, proteinuria and hypertensive disorders, prenatal consultation and prenatal consultation of the partner respectively. The description and analysis will be carried out with a public health perspective in Brazil. For the descriptive part of the study will be presented frequencies and average costs, for the variables of characterization of the sample and their correlations will be performed the Poisson regression. Expected results: At the end of this research project, it is expected to have a material specifically and robust enough to demonstrate to the scientific community how the quality of prenatal care is in the country and in each federative region, specifically, and how much is used monetarily in direct costs arising from the process of this assistance in Brazil.
