SUMMARY:

Introduction: The coronavirus infection (COVID-19) is characterized by a systemic and pulmonary inflammatory condition. In addition to the common symptoms such as fever, cough and shortness of breath, there is a range of neuromuscular involvement that is common both in acute illness caused by Covid-19 infection and in post-Covid-19 sequelae. In this narrative, it is correct to think that the tendon, a component of the locomotor system, will also suffer the consequences of the disease. However, studies evaluating the properties of tendons in patients who had COVID-19 are scarce Objective: To evaluate the tendon properties (material, mechanical and morphological) of the patellar tendon in participants after diagnosis with COVID-19 who had moderate and severe levels of involvement within 12 months after contagion of the disease compared to a control group. Methods: This is a cross-sectional observational study, which 4 assessments will be carried out over 1 year of the groups: (1) control group (healthy, n = 30), (2) COVID-19 positives who had moderate symptoms (n=120), (3) COVID-19 positives who had severe symptoms (n=120). In each assessment, participants will perform maximal isometric voluntary contractions (MIVC's) for knee extension on the dynamometer chair. For the analysis of patellar tendon properties, ultrasound videos will be obtained during 4 MIVC's. Expected results: It is expected that this project will contribute to elucidate the tendinous properties of the patellar tendon. Furthermore, it is expected that throughout the evaluations the participants show positive changes in tendon properties, considering the recovery.
