SUMMARY:

Introduction: Several neuropsychiatric symptoms occur throughout the progression of Alzheimer's Disease (AD), with emphasis on aggressiveness and psychomotor agitation, which lead to the excessive prescription of off-label psychotropic drugs and can cause institutionalization. The evaluation of the Health Care Network available in the reference health region is essential. It must be structured and articulated with an interdisciplinary perspective and offer services that provide non-pharmacological interventions, promoting care and proper management. Objective: To analyze the health care network for the elderly population with Alzheimer's dementia, with emphasis on the management of aggressiveness and agitation, within the scope of the Unified Health System of the Federal District. Methods: The study is being carried out in the public health network of the Federal District in two stages: 1) situational diagnosis of the dementia population with aggressiveness and agitation through an epidemiological clinical evaluation; 2) evaluation of health services offered to the elderly population with dementia and professionals, through structured questionnaires. Preliminary results: Following the research work plan and schedule, in Stage 1, 481 elderly people were recruited, mostly women, with more than 5 years of dementia diagnosis. The drugs most used for behavioral control, in more than 70% of cases, were antidepressants and antipsychotics. Step 2 is under development and currently has 127 health professionals. Of these, 52% work in Primary Health Care, 70% report doubts about case management and 82% would like to have support from a specialized team or matrix support.
