SUMMARY:

Gasification is a thermochemical conversion process whose objective is the production of a biogas called syngas. In general, this gas consists of a mixture of methane gas, carbon dioxide, carbon monoxide, hydrogen gas, tar and some light hydrocarbons. The gasification process takes place in a gasification reactor, which can be classified into fixed bed or fluidized bed reactors. This work presents a design methodology for a fluidized bed reactor and the computational modeling of the gasification process. The reactor was designed through thermodynamic and fluidization analysis of a bubbling fluidized bed. Using the Engineering Equation Solver (EES) software, the gasification processes in a bubbling fluidized bed reactor was performed considering a one-dimensional model in steady state regime. In first analysis, the fluidization conditions were assumed to be constant throughout the reactor and the bed temperature was imposed. The first results showed that the model has good agreement with experimental data from other authors.
