SUMMARY:

“In Brazil, there are consolidated policies to promote school health, about oral health studies have observed that adherence to the School Health Program is related to better oral health conditions for adolescents through the Brazilian National Adolescent School-Based Health Survey. Considering these findings, this study aims to describe the implementation and evaluation of the School Health Program, focusing on the factors associated with the promotion of oral health among students in schools in Brazilian capitals in 2019. This is an evaluative study of the implementation and implementation of the Program, and with a crosssectional design, characterizing the infrastructure of the schools that registered oral health actions in 2019, and the association of the Program's oral health actions with the frequency of toothbrushing, use of dental services and reports of toothache by adolescents of Brazilian capitals in 2019. Documentary analyzes and descriptive and inferential analyzes of secondary databases of interest to the school context were used, such as the Health Information System for Primary Care, presented in the first stage of the study, the School Census of Basic Education, the Basic Education Development Index, to be described in the second stage of the study, and the 2019 Brazilian National Adolescent School-Based Health Survey, analyzed in the third stage of the study. Among the results of this work, the first stage of the study identified that the institutionalization of the School Health Program in Brazil allowed the expansion of health promotion actions at school, evidenced by the growing adherence of municipalities to the Program. However, its inclusion in the basic levels of macro social policies, Primary Health Care and Basic Education, are still a challenge for intervention in favor of the quality of life of students, demanding from the public authorities and other interested parties a sensitive look at the health needs of adolescents to feed the monitoring and evaluation of the school health promotion policy cycle in Brazil.”
