SUMMARY:

“_The aim of this thesis proposal is to evaluate COVID-19 long-term outcomes in individuals with excess body weight managed by the Federal District Unified Health System (SUS-DF). For this purpose, two different studies will be conducted, with distinct objectives and methods. The first study is a systematic review that aims to summarize evidence regarding the most frequent long-COVID symptoms among individuals with excess of weight. The second study aims to investigate hospital readmission rates after COVID-19 hospitalization, according to nutritional status; to describe the transition of care from hospital to primary services among individuals with excess of weight who survived COVID-19 hospitalization in the local health system; and to investigate whether continuity of care decreases the risk of hospital readmission and death, after COVID-19 hospitalization. Methods: Initially, a systematic review, with metanalyses will be conducted (PROSPERO nº: CRD42023433234) according to PRISMA guideline. The original study is a retrospective cohort using secondary chart data of Unified Health System. The population of the study will be individuals living in Federal District, discharged due to COVID-19 in 2020 (survivors), whose weight and height data were registered in health information systems. Data regarding sociodemographic characteristics, COVID-19 hospitalization, and continuity of care (one year before and one year after COVID-19 hospitalization) in the SUS-DF will be collected. Data sources will be SIVEPGrip and clinical charts. Excess of weight will be the exposure variable, while hospital readmission and death after hospital readmission will be the investigated outcomes. Patients will be divided into two possible groups: with excess of weight (BMI<25Kg/m2) and without excess of weight (BMI<25Kg/m2). Continuity of care will be considered the modifying effect variable (represented by outpatient follow-up before and after COVID-19 hospitalization). Sociodemographic variables, the use of invasive ventilatory support, UTI care, smoking and multiple chronic conditions will be considered variables to fit the model. The Mantel-Hanzel stratified analyses will be conducted to obtain the measure of effect of evaluated groups. Single and multiple logistic regression will be applied to evaluate the nature and strength of the association________________”
