SUMMARY:

There are several body manifestations present in the Brazilian states that make up the Legal Amazon and which, historically, have not been disseminated in the teaching-learning process or are "folklorized" in schools. These bodily practices emerged from the encounter of indigenous populations, landowners, with people who were enslaved during the Brazilian Empire and Brazilians who, years later, migrated from other states to work in the Amazon region, mainly during the rubber boom. . In the state of Pará, the manifestations are found in several regions, characterized as cultural, religious and sports. Among the sports, there is the Marajoara Fight which, for some people from the Marajó archipelago, arose from the observation of buffalo fights and which aims to “dirty” the opponent's back with sand or mud. Common on the beaches and fields of the cities of Soure and Salvaterra, Luta Marajoara has a federation that governs its rules when dealing with competitions that take place during the festivities in the archipelago, however, this practice lacks historical records and academic-scientific data. Given these facts, this research aims to deal, in accordance with the Historical-Critical Pedagogy, with the conversion of objective knowledge into school knowledge assimilable by students in space and time and the provision of the necessary means for the assimilation and learning of the process of production and tendency of transformation (SAVIANI, 2013) along the lines of the “methodological proposal of overcoming didactics” that deals with the means of appropriating knowledge and apprehending the contradictory processes of historical reality, enabling the overcoming of everyday reality (SOUZA, 2009). When dealing with the methodological procedures, it began with the delimitation of the scientific literature on Physical Education, Corporal Culture, Popular Culture and Marajoara Fight, with the objective of, at first, establishing the theoretical framework to be used in the foundation of the research. Qualitative in character, this research has a dialectical approach and as a method of procedure and theory of knowledge, Historical-Dialectic Materialism.
