ACUTE EFFECTS OF CAFFEINE ORAL ADMINISTRATION ABOUT CARDIAC CHRONOTROPISM AND FUNCTION CARDIAC AUTONOMICS IN YOUNG WOMEN EVALUATED IN DIFFERENT FUNCTIONAL CONDITIONS

 

Introduction: Despite the literature describing the main central and peripheral effects of caffeine (CAF), little is known about the implications of its consumption on cardiac autonomic function (CAF), especially in the female population. Objective: To investigate the acute effects of oral administration of low doses of CAF (~3m/kg) on heart rate variability (HRV) and on hemodynamic and chronotropic variables in young, untrained women under different conditions of physical stress. Methods: Eighteen women (n=18), young, sedentary, clinically normal and non-habitual drinkers of CAF were evaluated. The research involved two visits to the laboratory and randomly, in a double-blind model, a dose of CAF (~3mg/Kg) or placebo (PLA-Sucrose) was offered. The FAC analysis was performed using the HRV (temporal indices and Poincaré Plot) in the supine and orthostatic positions, during a training session of moderate intensity and in the post-exercise recovery period. Preliminary Results: No significant differences were observed after oral administration of PLAC and CAF, in resting conditions, in the variables of heart rate (HR), systolic blood pressure (SBP), and respiratory rate (RR). In the supine position, higher diastolic blood pressure (DBP) values were observed after placebo administration (p=0.02). Preliminary conclusions: In general, oral administration of low doses of CAF does not seem to alter hemodynamic and chronotropic variables at rest.
