Background: Police officers need to develop and maintain continual physical readiness. It corresponds to a comprehensive state of physical skills necessary for the application of techniques and tactics inherent to the profession. In the selection process for hiring police officers, there are two stages that require good physical fitness: the Physical Fitness Test (PFT) and the Police Academy (PA). At the PA, in addition to physical training, the candidate also learns the skills necessary to be a public safety agent. Objective: To describe the physical fitness for health of candidates of both genders for the position of Federal Highway Police Officer at the end of the PA, in association with their academic performance. Subjects: candidates of both sexes who attend the PA of the Federal Highway Police (FHP) in 2021. Methods: In a descriptive cross-sectional observation, data from the PFT and the candidates' grades in the various PA subjects will be analyzed, in order to make a statistical description of this population and list the possible associations between the score obtained in the PFT and the grades achieved in the subjects. Results: In a preliminary way, it was found that the candidate's gender does not influence his approval of the first stage of the contest. The mean age did not show a significant difference between genders.. Conclusion: It is expected, after discussing the results, that an answer will be reached as to whether more physically fit individuals do better in objective and practical PA exams.
