SUMMARY:

The study aims to develop and explain the general process of work in the production/training of the active Brazilian football player and his surplus, as well as their repercussion within the industry of the sport. Understanding that the simple contemplative observation of such phenomenon is insufficient to understand it; it is understood as necessary to make the debate considering some guiding categories, namely: dual career (sport and school), football industry, football productive plant, political economy of sport, intangible asset, workforce, working class and owner and microeconomics. In addition, the investigation will be explanatory, quantitative-qualitative, relying on the technical procedure in the documentary survey of primary and/or secondary sources, as well as in bibliographical research. The guiding question of the text is imbedded in the understanding of which determinants act in the production/formation of the active Brazilian player in the globalized ball market? The first one is that the absence of policies on basic education interferes in the relationship between professionalization in football, workers' schooling and their precariousness in the world of work (S1). The second one intends to understand that the most valued athletes of the modality may be excluded from the concept of class-who-lives-from-work (S2). Finally, the problematization that the surplus value produced inside and outside the sport is appropriated via income, analogous to land, both by the elite athletes and by the media conglomerates (S3).
