SUMMARY:

The present research aims to analyze the historical trajectory of the traveling exhibitions of the Staatliche Kunsthalle Berlin (State Art Gallery of Berlin). This state art gallery was founded in 1977 and hosted approximately 121 exhibitions until its closure in 1993. In this investigation, the intercultural relations between the mentioned gallery and Brazilian institutions will be examined in order to understand the internationalization process of Brazilian artists' careers, with a focus on artists from the to understand Northeast region of Brazil. In this sense, the relations will be investigated through the histories of collective exhibitions held in Brazil: "15 Berliner Künstler in Brasilien | 15 Artists from Berlin in Brazil" (1986-1987), "Momentaufnahme | Contemporary Art from Berlin" (1987), and "Werkstatt Berlin – São Paulo | Workshop Berlin–São Paulo 88" (1988). Additionally, the individual and collective exhibitions of Brazilian artists at the institution in Berlin will also be examined, with emphasis on artists from Paraíba, such as Antônio Dias and João Câmara. The investigation will be carried out through qualitative sampling within the context of "Exhibition History," utilizing primary sources and methodological procedures of documentary research, including examination of exhibition catalogs, correspondence between directors of the institutions responsible for the exhibitions and the cultural production team, as well as newspaper and magazine articles. In order to understand the empirical and internationalization-related issues within the careers of Brazilian artists during the analyzed period, semi-structured individual and/or group interviews will be conducted with artists, members of the exhibition organizing team, and partner institutions. Ultimately, this research aims to contribute to the historiography of art exhibitions in Brazil and Germany.
