SUMMARY:

Continuous economic development associated with environmental degradation poses one of the main challenges currently faced, directly affecting the environment, society, and human health. The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) synthesizes scientific knowledge on climate change and its impacts, highlighting increased terrestrial temperature. With a forecasted rise of 1.5°C by the first half of the 2030s, sectors like construction must act on reducing CO2 emissions. Despite a temporary reduction during the pandemic, the return to pre-pandemic levels underscores the need for a more sustainable construction model. Environmental building certifications have been developed to promote sustainability in construction. Yet, awareness of sustainable practices remains limited in the sector. Therefore, it is essential to identify the main obstacles faced by construction professionals and develop guidelines to promote the adoption of more sustainable practices. The proposed study aims to identify factors that influence the adoption of sustainable practices in residential projects, with specific objectives including characterizing involved professionals, identifying challenges, and presenting guidelines to enhance the adoption of sustainable practices. It is believed that guideline definition is influenced by various agents and factors, including those involved in the process, economic viability, and public policy instruments. The proposed research method comprises eight main stages, including identifying sustainability criteria, questionnaire development and application, semi-structured interviews, and comparative data analysis.
