rail system, infrastructure, cities, urbanization, modernization
The research presented intends to explore the cities that make up the former Goiás Railway, which became part of the Rede Ferroviária Federal S.A. and was granted to Vale Logística – VLi. An instrument of modernization, implemented at the end of the 19th century, which transformed and created several cities along the railway line. The objective is to understand and analyze the urbanization processes of the region through which the rails passed, from the technical object the Estrada de Ferro Goiás, as an object of penetration in the territory. For this, we seek to elaborate a narrative about the railroad, starting from the general historical context of the implementation process of the railroad branch, especially from the road plans, and the cities through which the rails passed, combined with cartographic analysis and taxonomy. as an instrument of spatial categorization. The tracks passed, modified and followed a series of events and actions, which resulted in generations of cities with distinct urbanization patterns and forms of spatial organization, as the trail of modernity advanced. Analyzing the character of these processes in each city, with the intention of identifying the characteristics of the actions and events of implantation and running of the rail system, which goes beyond the tracks, locomotives, wagons and stations, will allow to distinguish the results that are either similar or completely different, but above all, it will provide an understanding of the reasons for this history and reconstitute what produced what happened. And, with that, the work reaches its main objective, which is to study cities, some never studied, others little explored, but never yet confronted from the perspective of this technical object as a vector of socio-spatial transformation and urbanization.
