Brasília's Urban Ensemble Surroundings: New Paths for the preservation of a Historic Urban Landscape
Historic Urban Landscape, settings, Brasília's Urban Ensemble
To understand inherent values of each particular heritage site is the first step for the preservation of urban heritage to be seen as a an integral part of the cities's development strategies. According to the Recommendation of the Historic Urban Landcape (2011), HUL, growth is transforming the essence of many historic urban areas, while urbanization provides development economic, social and cultural, these changes can also end up undermining the sense of place and identity of communities locations. Quality of urban environment has become a local, national and global concern, as cities will be the society's main dwelling place in 21st century. The understanding of what needs to be preserved underwent changes throughout the 19th and 20th centuries. The expansions in preservation's concepts have been adopting a more comprehensive approach, including intangibles aspects, urban contexts and surrounding (settings)s. Based on the understanding that the surrounding area of a listed property would be inserted in the layers that make up the historic urban landscape of a particular property and considering the expansion of the concept of settings of heritage structures, we establish the following main question of this work: How the new approaches brought by the heritage charters on the concept of heritage's structures settings and by UNESCO, encompassing the concept of landscape, can help preservation and urban development guidelines, bringing useful procedures for application in the surroundings of listed properties?
