SUMMARY:

The research focuses on the analysis of discourses and modes of subjectivation in the music of American anarcho-punk and afro-punk groups that, between 1978 and 2010, addressed racial themes in their songs. With the theoretical support of Ethnic and Racial Studies and Critical Studies of Whiteness, as well as a discursive approach to representations, we seek to historicize discourses at the heart of which are the themes of race and racism, paying attention to the ways in which such discourses they function as “cultural pedagogies” constituting modes and processes of subjectivation (of subject construction) immersed in punk within the proposed spatial and temporal cut. The analysis of the research corpus, composed of phonographic works by anarcho-punk and afro-punk bands, has indicated that these are subgenres that articulate anti-racist punk pedagogies that catalyze racial literacy processes and signal resistance to “raciality devices”, operating strategies of transgression/deconstruction of the hegemonic whiteness that propitiate black self-determination in punk in the United States of America. Based on these considerations, the research follows an itinerary that also includes a look at the interpenetrations between anarchist anti-racism and punk culture in the production of subjectivities that transgress the social normativity of a nation in which white supremacy is a structural component.
