SUMMARY:

The research therefore covers changes in national curriculum guidelines, on a smaller scale, in teaching and student practices (based on observation of history classes at SEEDF in 2021), as well as academic research into the history-digitisation teaching interface, as organised in the summary at the end of the text. The subtitle "Updating to leave everything as it is" refers to the interpretation of Wendy Hui Kyong Chun, a media theorist and professor of Modern Media Studies at Simon Fraser University in Canada. For the researcher, the habit of using social networks is becoming deeper and more naturalised, which leads to the continual need for new media in order to trigger change - to be "updated to stay the same" - in other words, to change some settings and stimulate controversial content in order to maintain engagement. She proposes that "Habit + Crisis = Update", which means that crises - moments that require real-time responses - make new media valuable and empowering by linking certain information to decisions, whether personal or political. The notion of "updating" in the subtitle also highlights the relationship between the present time and history teaching. In this sense, we can ask ourselves if history teaching isn't also "updating itself in order to remain the same".
