SUMMARY:

This research has as its object of study the methodological characteristics used in Brazilian Information Science, represented in the methodologies covered in the theses of the Brazilian Stricto Sensu Postgraduate Programs between 2019 and 2024. The justification to carry out this investigation was based on the researcher's personal and professional teaching interest, based on scientific publications on the aforementioned topic which mention the methodological weaknesses existing in IC. The research's general objective is to propose the classification of IC scientific research methodology, considering the theoretical-methodological development of academic research, aiming to consolidate the methodological identity of the area. The methodology is guided by the Genre of Research in Methodological Research, in its Exploratory and Descriptive Objectives, of an Applied Nature, in the Inductive Approach Method, on the Approach to the Problem in Mixed Methods. Regarding the Methods of Procedures, this research was carried out by Systematic Literature Review, Documentary Research and, as for techniques, the technological tools Excel and Kibana were used, bothe organized and operationalized the research data to carry out the bibliometric analyses, subsequently, following to the theoretical-methodological examination according to the methodological guidelines of the literature in Scientific Research Methodology. As the results, we seek to achieve the general and specific objectives of this research and, upon its conclusion, we intend to suggest the classification of scientific research methodology in order to contribute to the consolidation of the methodological identity of the area.
