Polymeric actuators are used as an alternative to conventional actuation
processes. They can present characteristics such as lightness, good mimicry,
biocompatibility and softness, not found in conventional actuators. The manufacture of
polymeric actuators, however, often has manufacturing processes that use
environmentally aggressive solvents. In addition, one of the difficulties encountered in
the manufacture and use of polymeric actuators is the disaggregation of the parts. This
happens mainly in the case of actuators deposited on substrates.


This work presents the manufacturing process of a thick film of poly (3, 4 -
ethylene dioxythiophene) poly (styrene sulfonate) (PEDOT:PSS), potassium dihydrogen
phosphate (KDP) and polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) for possible use in actuators. All
components are water soluble.


From the investigation of the components of the solution for a polymeric
actuator with the desired characteristics, seven different preparation methodologies were
developed. To observe the degree of influence of the addition order of the components
in the solution. Thus, it was possible to perform a construction method allied to the
analysis of the formed thick film.


Characteristics such as: simplicity of reagents and processes, non-toxicity of
solvents, self-support of the thick film were sought.
The films formed from the deposition of the PEDOT:PSS/KDP/PVA solution
were characterized in terms of their morphology, thickness, sheet resistance,
composition and displacement.


At the end of the work, it was possible to obtain a thick film capable of
displacing 2 mm under 4.2 V DC voltage.
