The satellite communication systems has had a vertiginous growth in recent years due to the emergence and expansion of new technologies that demand more and more bandwidth. This constant evolution has driven the industry to develop communication technologies with higher capillarity, efficiency and intelligence. Based on this finding, this work performs the analysis of the effects of attenuation due to rain in Ka band on the reception link of the gateway antenna in Brasilia. Initially, the penetrability of internet access in the regions of Brazil and the current scenario of satellite communications in the country are described. The historical contextualization of the space systems, the description of the orbits and its applications and the explanation of the space, control, user segments and the architecture of the SGDC system are carried out, including the tracking chain and the resources used to extract and process the manipulated data. Beacon signal measurements were obtained through the Brasilia gateway throughout 2021 and such measurements supported the development of this work. Monthly rainfall volumes were obtained between the years 2010 and 2020 and were compared with the volumes verified in the year 2021 in order to check the representativeness of the power data measured from the beacon. Through the data obtained, the clear sky value was proposed, from which a table was constructed describing attenuation times, number of events and percentage of annual time for the attenuation range 1 to 30 dB. The correlation between the amount of rain events and the percentage of time in which the beacon signal is attenuated below the clear sky level during seasons, is also studied. Finally, a table is obtained that considers the time intervals of 30-60, 60-120, 120-300 and 300-1200 seconds, per considered attenuation level. Using these data, the annual temporal behavior of attenuation of the beacon signal by attenuation range is demonstrated and a mathematical model capable of representing, with good precision, the reference interval considered, which is the interval of 30-60 seconds. In addition, scaling factors capable of reducing the other studied intervals to the reference interval are proposed. The present investigation proposes a statistical model capable of reliably representing the annual behavior of the beacon signal in the presence of rain, in the region of Brasilia. The results prove the applicability and precision of the proposed model in the dimensioning of radiofrequency systems that operate in Ka band.
