Open innovation; Technological development; Scientific and Technological Institutions; University of Brasília
Innovation is essential for the social, economic, and scientific development of any nation, and universities play a central role in this process. The University of Brasília (UnB) continuously strives to establish itself as a reference environment in innovation. However, the implementation of these practices in Brazilian Scientific and Technological Institutions (ICTs) faces significant challenges, often resulting in immature technologies and commercialization difficulties. This work aims to fill a knowledge gap and provide concrete data to support future political and strategic decisions. The proposed research will analyze how open innovation is being developed at UnB and its influence on research, technological development, and technology transfer. A qualitative and quantitative approach will be adopted, based on the inductive method, for an in-depth analysis of the topic. Qualitative data on UnB's innovation initiatives will be collected from the promulgation of the Legal Framework for Science and Technology in 2016 until 2023, using primary and secondary sources. The case study at UnB will allow for the identification of specific relationships and detailing the processes and impacts of open innovation. Additionally, the research seeks to identify the main challenges faced by UnB in implementing open innovation practices and propose strategies to overcome them. By integrating the results from the various stages of analysis, it is expected to provide a comprehensive understanding of the current open innovation scenario at UnB and offer recommendations to improve these practices.
