SUMMARY:

This research aims to understand how same-sex mothers is conceptualized by families themselves, by academic studies and how it is situated in the (in)visibility of teaching in Psychology degrees and couples and family psychotherapy training. The methodology adopted focuses on discursive practices and the production of meaning in everyday life, combined with studies of gender and sexuality. At this first moment, it was possible to start the bibliographic review at national and international level; as well as the construction of questionnaires and semi-structured interviews. The partial results suggest significant gaps, especially in the area of Psychology, suggesting the need for a broader and more inclusive understanding of same-sex families both in academia and in society in general.
