SUMMARY:

This research aims to qualify the concept of unconscious present in the work Milton H. Erickson's philosophy of Charles S. Peirce. The first author was a twentieth-century American psychiatrist who contributed innovatively to the field clinical hypnosis; the second was a nineteenth-century polymath, also American, known as the forerunner of pragmatism. The rationale for this research is to the consensus that some authors establish that, although the unconscious is considered a fundamental assumption of the Ericksonian clinic, it has not yet been conceptually developed, which makes the understanding of the logic underlying the Erickson's work a challenge. Thus, the peircian work shows itself as a relevant reference for this endeavor, both by the common cultural cradle of both the authors, as by the influence that the psychiatrist had of American pragmatism. To carry out this approach, some reports by Erickson on the idea will be described unconscious. Then some of Peirce's ideas about nature will be presented unconscious of the self to then analyze the forms of consciousness proposed by Peirce and finally discuss the relationships of these ideas based on a case vignette Erickson clinic. It is inferred that the unconscious is both a form of perception implicit, when an accumulated learning comes from experience. The perception it belongs to the field of primacy consciousness (primisense), with its sensitivity to qualities; experiences that motivate learning they involve an awareness of alterity (altersense) and their own learning accumulated are related to the consciousness of thirdliness (medisense), which would be focused on the production of mediators or representations that create new ways of intelligibility. This triad forms a single system that represents the continuum between the explicit (conscious) and implicit (unconscious) face of our self.
