DIÁLOGOS EM VERTIGENS: LIMA BARRETO E JOSÉ ORTEGA Y GASSET, ADAPTAÇÃO E A MASSA NA TELENOVELA
Lima Barreto; Ortega e Gasset; afrobrazilian character; adaptation.
The present research aims to study the afro-brasilian character in Lima Barreto's literature and analyze its displacement in the adaptation for the telenovela. The perspective is to reach how the afro-brazilan character was portrayed in the passage from the literary universe of Lima Barreto to the telenovela Fera Ferida (1994). Lima Barreto's work speaks of individuals in a society that excludes and marginalizes them. Our intention is to verify how the thought of Ortega and Gasset, mainly in their work Revolt of the Masses by José Ortega y Gasset (1930), could contribute to the understanding of the adaptation of the literary universe of Lima Barreto in the configuration of the telenovela Fera Ferida. The analysis will focus, above all, on the study of the social, cultural and political contexts at the time and on the context of reception of the soap opera in the early 1990s. The script was written by Agnaldo Silva, Ana Maria Moretz and Ricardo Linhares. The telenovela was presented by Rede Globo de Televisão in 221 chapters, from November 15, 1993 to July 16, 1994. The initial plot was based on the adaptation of the short story A Nova California by Lima Barreto (1915). In addition to this foundational narrative, the telenovela used other short stories and novels by Barreto to develop the plot. Among them the short story O homem que sabia Javanês [The man who knew javanese] (1911), Memories of Isaias Caminha (1917), Numa e Ninfa (1915) and Clara dos Anjos (1948). In the literary texts and in the adaptation for the telenovela, we are interested in identifying the black body, verifying how it is treated by the author in the literary universe and how the reception occurred in the adaptation for the telenovela. To this end, it will not fail to address any aspect of literary construction that may interest the research objectives.
