SUMMARY:

This dissertation proposes to understand and analyze the interferences and dialogues of Charles Baudelaire's critical production in his poetic production, with regard to the visual arts, notably painting. In order to do so, at first, it focuses on the poet's new paths in modernity, conditioned by the transformations of the city of Paris in the 19th century. Then, we start to understand the reflexes of critical production in poetic production, with attention to the relationship built between Baudelaire and Eugène Delacroix. To do this, we rely on the sonnet “A uma passante” published in As flores do mal, 1857, and in the painting “A liberdade guiando o povo”, by Eugène Delacroix, 1830. Finally, we will use the poem “Sobre Tasso na prisão, de Eugène Delacroix” and the painting “Tasso na prisão dos loucos”, 1839, both also by Baudelaire and Delacroix, respectively. In this approach we intend to build an interpretation of the relationship between poetry and painting, from the point of view of these artists, as well as the poet's situation in modernity.
