SUMMARY:

This research seeks to analyze the short stories authored by the Bahian writer Sonia Coutinho, published in Jornal da Bahia in 1965. The texts comprise the period from March to June of that year, when she worked on the edition of the column Apontamento. This study focuses on a critical reading of the short stories, aiming to contribute to the maintenance of their record and th eir nonerasure from the history of Brazilian literature. To this end, the reading starts with the analysis of the most recurrent themes in her texts, with the aim of identifying and analyzing the contents to which the writer pays more attention and their reflections and/or relationships with other works by the author. With this purpose, the short stories were grouped by proximity of subjects, observing, initially, what were the organization strategies of the chronicles short stories in terms of structure. Subsequently, the central themes present in the manuscripts were selected, namely: reading, women and space. These were analyzed in the light of feminist criticism in an intersectional perspective. The search for clarification of the writer's production strategies, as well as the themes that stand out most in her texts, are configured as an opportunity for reflection on the Brazilian chronicle and the multiple profile of the Bahian fictionist, who is inscribed in the literary field as a short stories writer (chronicler), writer and novelist.
