SUMMARY:

The present study is based on the sociocultural perspective of deafness, in which the deaf community is understood as a linguistic and cultural minority, and on the right of access to the arts, notably the theater. From then on, difficulties in accessing the theater for deaf people are problematized and Gustave Akakpo's play The mother too soon is recreated, both in terms of argument and format issues. In this sense, through a qualitative approach, we re-read the original text from a visual perspective, adopting the modality of drawings and adding to the content the problem and theme of language policy related to the deaf community. In a second moment, we will produce and stage this recreation, with the participation of actors, deaf and hearing people, in systematic meetings in which non-manual expressions articulated to the theater will be worked on, in order to conceptually identify and develop the importance of bilingualism and of facial and body expressions in the constitution of a creative theater from the expressive space-visual uniqueness of deaf subjects. This study aims to contribute to the reflection on the importance of access to culture by the deaf community, through the recreation of the plot (material and plot) and accessible formats in the presentation of the dramaturgy.
