SUMMARY:

The study of the soil-landscape relationship is capable of providing an integrative view of the landscape, since the process of soil formation involves the interaction between different elements, such as climate, rocks and biota. It is also in the soil where most of the biogeochemical cycles of carbon and nitrogen take place, where they are found mainly in the form of soil organic matter (SOM). In regions with poor soil, such as the Cerrado, SOM plays a fundamental role in nutrient cycling and maintenance of biota, which, in turn, will be one of the main components of the landscape. It is crucial, therefore, to study the SOM dynamics to understand the relationships between soil and landscape in the Cerrado. This work seeks, from the isotopic analysis of carbon and nitrogen in surface soils, to study the soil-landscape relationship in the Emas National Park. The low slope relief in this area allows a more precise analysis of the possible influences of SOM on the landscape expression, and the stable isotopes become potential inditcators for this relationship.
