Symbolic Violence: A Barrier to Human Rights

Symbolic violence is one of the biggest barriers to accessing human rights. It is important to understand and develop tools to combat this violence and guaranteeing access to public schools does not necessarily mean guaranteeing quality education and the full development of the student. The school, seen as a social space for transformation, ends up perpetuating symbolic violence as a way of maintaining social inequalities. This research constitutes the investigation of the symbolic violence practiced by SEEDF professionals (Secretary of State of Education of the DF), lack of spaces for dialogues on the construction of movements towards the social emancipation of the student. It aims to analyze social relations based on Pierre Bourdieu's concepts of symbolic violence, Michel Serres's education and the possible consequences of fragmented and superficial relationships between teachers and students in the public school system in the Federal District.
