HUMAN RIGHTS AND ANIMAL RIGHTS: ENCOUNTERS IN VEGAN ACTIVISTS INSTAGRAM POSTS
animal rights; human rights; veganism; social activism; content analysis
The Brazilian context shows that at the same time that the exploitation of non-human animals increases, especially in the food industry, the movement for veganism also grows. In the history of activism for animal rights, it is possible to find several encounters with mobilizations for human rights, in the understanding of human rights as a process resulting from social struggles for a life worth living, just like the critical theory of Joaquín Herrera Flores. Given this panorama, and taking into account the contemporary context of vegan activism on internet social networks, the objective of this research project is to understand how animal rights and human rights are associated in current publications by animal activists in the Instagram. To this end, the Content Analysis methodology is proposed to analyze publications from activist profiles, as well as comments from followers, taking into account guiding questions and hypotheses about the nature of the relationship between human rights and animal rights, as well as the categorization of these posts.
