PAGES: 51
BIG AREA: Ciências Humanas
AREA: Educação
SUMMARY:

The present work has as initial step my teaching practice as a teacher of Basic Education of the disciplines Natural Sciences and Biology, a practice that always seeks to have the teaching of Science and Biology as an instrument of questioning and subversion of an education that favors the maintenance of social structures in Brazil, social structures that are historically and evidently racist. I am a black teacher who, in all the schools that I taught classes, I noticed that some practices, such as homogenization of classes, were present, and when studying the origin of the implementation of this type of practice, I saw that the Eugenics and hygienist movements were the ones who dissectized such practices in Brazilian education. When I noticed the intertwining between these ideas and the formation of education, especially the Brazilian public school, I tried to research, analyze and understand more about it, and so I came to the following question: are the ideas eugenicists and hygienists still present in the current educational dynamics? This question led me to three other questions: 1 – Has the Brazilian social structure underpinning and underpinning the entry of scientific theories such as these in the various fields of knowledge? 2 – To what extent does the eugenics and hygienist ideas base, endorse and remain in the Curricular Policies for The Teaching of Sciences? 3 – What are its developments in Science Teaching? In order to investigate these questions, a bibliographical research was carried out by authors and authors dealing with the theme, such as: Antunes (2012), Bonfim (2017), Faggion and Boarini (2018), Gebrim (2002), Goés (2015), Manssanera e Silva (2000) and Souza (2016). I intend here, using the methodological path of Dialectical Historical Materialism, to rely on categories such as reproduction, hegemony and unitary school worked by Antônio Gramsci, to analyze and discuss the relations between the curriculum and society, and to discuss how curricular policies, such as the curriculum in motion and the Common National Curriculum Base, can still suffer interference from eugenicist and hygienist ideas. I hope that by analyzing the curricular documents and organizing them into categories based on the data themselves, it will be possible to explain the disputes of interests existing in their formulations and that the possible intertwining between Brazilian education and the eugenicist and hygienist ideas will be apprehended.
