Academic Pretuguês: a study about decolonial terminologies
Black epistemologies. Academic pretuguês. Terminology. Epistemic racism. Decolonial Linguistics.
The theme of this thesis is part of the Lexicon and Terminology research line, developed at the Centro de Estudos Lexicais e Terminológicos (Centro Lexterm), at the Universidade de Brasília. The object of study is the academic pretuguês, understood as a type of specialty lexicon typical of black epistemologies. The motivation for carrying out this work is to identify how the terminologies used in the academic world can represent the productions of black intellectuals from a decolonial perspective. The main objective of this research is the creation of a reference material for linguistic studies that deal with racial relations in order to be an instrument to combat the different facets of racism. For this, we will go through some steps, of a reflective, analytical and technical nature, respectively. That said, the thesis presents new reflections on language that have as a backdrop the proposal to discuss linguistic/academic/epistemic racism. Furthermore, the terms and their concepts are analyzed in order to present the black epistemologies. Finally, we will develop the concept of academic pretuguês from what we propose in this work. The methodology we follow for the treatment of terms and for the prototypical organization of a glossary is based on Faulstich (2001), Proposta metodológica para elaboração de léxicos, dicionários e glossários. Through the collected information, it will be possible to identify the epistemological field that is formed by the black academic population, now in the position of subject of investigations and no longer as a mere object. The intention, in the end, is to illustrate how these terms in their appearance represent much of the black cultural, cosmological and intellectual essence.
