Literature as deception: a rhetorical bias
Rhetoric; Literature; False; Sophistry; Reinaldo Santos Neves
The following text groups together the development of a thesis proposal entitled "Literature as deception: a rhetorical bias", under the guidance of Professor José Luis Martinez Amaro, University of Brasília. The first part is intended to be expository, with an incursion in a regime of exhibition through the central object of the thesis, the work A folha de hera: romance bilíngue (2011), by Reinaldo Santos Neves, in its rhetorical particularities of rescuing a medieval syntax and its games of false attributions that make it an exercise in literary falsehood. The second chapter focuses on a more theoretical discussion, in which the assumptions for a defense of deceit and falsehood in contemporary literature, or a literary sophistry, based on the old quarrel between philosophy and rhetoric, are presented. In the third chapter, under development, it is intended to unravel the capixaba novel from a rhetorical bias, reading the text mainly as an epideictic discourse.
